Gaggia espresso machine4/12/2023 Taking the machine out, you see the what’s in the box – double and single filters, portafilter, tamper (yep, the same cheap plastic one every machine from $150 to $2000 and more seems to ship with), portafilter, manual, and a little rubber disk. A few machines I’ve received recently could stand to be better packed, but the Gaggia isn’t one of them – the form foam skeleton around the machine keeps it stable and secure, and the portafilter is completely separate from the machine – it’s on the lid portion of the styro. This initial look at the Gaggia Classic is just that – a week’s worth of analysis and testing. Anything and everything I write could change between these two documents. We haven’t done the detailed review, and I won’t pass judgment on the aluminum boiler inside the machine until we give the Gaggia a good several months’ worth of testing.Īs always, this is a first look, not a Detailed Review. But Gaggia is still using a boiler system they initially developed decades ago, and maybe it’s time to call for the “put out to pasture” sign for that part of the machine – at this point, I don’t know. A lot of what was learned about the consumer espresso marketplace has been put into the Classic’s functions, which is a good thing. The Gaggia Classic has undergone subtle changes over the years, and today’s model is in many ways a refinement of pluses and possible compromises. This machine has been around for such a long time that I can recall seeing it, with fairly garish colours, on the shelf of an Italian Deli on Preston Street in Ottawa back in the mid 1980s. That machine, in its current iteration, is the Gaggia Classic. It’s a name that has been around the consumer espresso machine marketplace in North America more than almost any other brand name, save possibly La Pavoni.Īnd they have a machine in their lineup – a machine that has seen the light of day constantly for maybe going on two decades now. ![]() How To Make an Iced Espresso May 27, 2021.How To Make a Macchiato One of CoffeeGeek's most detailed How Tos, the macchiato guide features not one, but two distinct ways to build this fantastic drink!.OXO Digital Pour Over Kettle Jan 16, 2020.Hario Nouveau Siphon Coffee Brewer Feb 28, 2022.Orphan Espresso Apex Grinder May 8, 2021.Hario Nouveau Siphon Coffee Brewer 20 years after launching CoffeeGeek, we revisit the very first product we ever did a Detailed Review on: the Hario Nouveau Siphon Coffee Maker.Thoughts and Theories on Cold / Iced Coffee Aug 22, 2011. ![]()
